Most regions offer clinics focused on body checking--how to give and take a hit. I would highly recommend that your child attend one if they are going to be starting a year where body checking is permitted.
The basics like don't turn your back on the play, don't skate face forwards to the boards are very key. I am also a strong proponent in using your hockey stance as it provides you stability when being hit.
Learning the basics on ice from qualified teachers is critical.
