Everyone loves soft clothes and towels, but if you or someone you spend a lot of time with has allergies or asthma, most fabric softeners are too harsh or scent-laden for regular use, not to mention the cost.
Adding a few tablespoons of vinegar (plain or apple cider) to your wash will not only make your clothes soft, but eliminates instead of covering up any odor seeping into, say, last week's gym shorts. You won't be able to smell the vinegar on the clothing at all--I did it for 3 months before telling my husband, and he had no idea. You can put the vinegar in the same dispenser as your fabric softener, or add it at the beginning of the rinse cycle.
