Burn Dry Wood for a Healthy Chimney

Creosote can be a killer. It builds up

Creosote can be a killer. It builds up over time in chimneys and then one day a hot fire will ignite it and burn the chimney and house down. One of the best ways to prevent creosote is to burn well dried wood at the proper temperature. Cut your hardwood, such as Ash or Oak, a full year before you wish to burn it, and let it sit out in a protected area, either under a tarp or wood shed. When it is cracking on the ends you know it will be easy to split and will burn nice and hot. Cold wet fires are very unhealthy for your chimney. Consult your wood stove or fireplace dealer to learn what's the best temperature for your particular burner.
