Choosing a job in the military is very important. It will dictate what bases you can go to, what your hours will be, whether or not you'll get a signing bonus, how long job training will be, how often you'll be deployed, what kind of job you can get in the civilian world, and basically what you will be doing all day. With so many factors to consider, it’s amazing that people will come in Open General. That means going to boot camp (basic training) without an assigned job. This means you will be assigned whatever job is open at the time. You may be lucky and end up with a job that suits you, but it’s all the luck of the draw. Don't believe your recruiter when they say if you don't like your job you can change it. You can eventually sign up for a new job, but that won't be for years in many cases. Even then it depends on what's available at the time. You may end up doing something you don't like for a very long time. So when you join the military, go in with a guaranteed job that you have chosen and actually want to do. This may create a longer waiting period before you leave for boot camp, but it will be worth the wait.
