Former convenience store employee M. Hardin has some tips for you guys:
1. Be aware of your surroundings, especially if you're working a later shift. All kinds of people go in and out of a convenience store. Be aware of what is going on around you. Even more important due to the fact that most times you'll be on the sales floor alone.
2.Keep track of what bills you're giving to the customer just in case a problem arises before the transaction is done ("I gave you a 20" when they really gave you a 10)
3. If a customer refuses the change, don't put it in your drawer, put it in a styrofoam cup near the register.
4.If you're robbed, comply.
5.Have 911 programmed on speed dial or the local police station # since it is more direct.
6.Always ask for ID w/ alcohol and tobacco sales. You never know who the customer really is.
6. Smile. Pay attention.
