Sometimes I feel a sadness that just washes over me. It happens more on a weekend when I am out of my routine.
When that happens, I reach into my ‘toolbox’ of solutions. For me, I need to get out of the house. I go for a walk, bike, look at a store that interests me or visit the library. I refer to a list which I prepared when I was feeling good—I have divided the list into short term and medium term solutions. If the depression lasts more than 3 days, then I would see a doctor. Everyone gets depressed and we can’t medicate it away—but on the other side one needs to stay on top of depression. You need to be proactive and plan when you are feeling well how you will fight depression when it hits.
