In college I spent hours sitting at my desk looking at my computer, waiting for original and stunning content to jump from my fingertips. Any sentence I wrote sounded trite or cliché, so I erased it, without even giving it the chance to grow. First drafts, like any art project, are always going to be unformed and uneven, but I can’t let that intimidate me. Three years later, I finally understand what my professor had tried to teach me (so many times) before: I can’t wait for inspiration. I have to create it.
