During the holidays, the terms "dressing" and "stuffing" get bandied about quite a bit in most households. What do these terms mean? Stuffing is the bread-and-herbs combination that's cooked inside the turkey's cavity -- it's usually moist and turkey-flavored. Dressing is the same thing, but is cooked outside of the turkey. It tastes very similar but is usually drier in texture. It's important to note that the US Department of Agriculture recommends never making stuffing -- putting the ingredients inside the bird is a very common cause of food-borne illness. If you really want to make stuffing inside your turkey, make sure it's at least 165 degrees F.
