Encourage your child--don't drive them. Hockey is about life skills--fun, friends, self-esteem, dealing with setbacks and enjoying victory.
It sometimes seems to me that 90% of novice parents think their kid will be in the NHL---of course this dwindles each year as reality sets in.
However, I have seen a lot of kids pushed too hard-and they get sick of hockey. As a parent, keep your perspective on what matters most--your kids enjoyment--and building life skills which is what hockey does wonderfully.
