Many years ago, I was told to fire someone on a Monday morning. It gave them plenty of time to assess the situation and then start a new job hunt or do something positive during the week--as opposed to if they were fired on a Friday afternoon and had all weekend to stew about it. Only downside to this is if it is a situation where you will stew all weekend if you put off the firing. Or if the person knows it is coming--why put off the inevitable? Conclusion: Fire when you need to, but if it is a surprise firing or layoffs and you care about employees, then a Monday is best for the person being let go. Bio: A small business owner for many years
