VIG gets a lot of golf stuff sent his way. The following is a great practice tip:
A common scenario golfers face on approach shots is being in between clubs. And then we have to ask ourselves, do we take a longer club and swing easier, or try to hit the shorter club harder?
Making the right decision more often can significantly influence your scoring potential (approach play is where most of scoring occurs).
Keep in mind that the data overwhelmingly shows that golfers miss greens on the short side.
Instead of guessing, here is a test you can do if you can access a simulator.
Pick a few yardages firmly in the middle of two clubs. For example, I would pick 143, 158, and 171 yards.
Then, for each yardage, hit a series of shots where you are alternating between the shorter and longer clubs.
Here is what you are looking for:
• Carry yardage
• Left-to-right dispersion
• Any changes in ball flight (curvature or trajectory)
