This tip is for individuals that feel stuck. Whether that is in your job or where you live or any other circumstance that makes you feel stuck in a situation.
Know your options and look into them. You may not actually take steps to make an option a reality but just knowing it is there/available can help your mental state a lot. Examples:
1. My job is making me depressed. I am underpaid, overworked and there are days I do not want to get out of bed. But there are benefits of working here (health insurance, room for advancement, close to home, flexibility with my children etc.)
It never hurts to look at other options. Even apply and go to the interview. Even if you don't end up changing jobs, you will see what else is out there and what you are qualified for. If you are offered a position and you do not accept it- at least it was a confidence boost. Knowing what your options are will make you feel much, much better.
2. Not enjoying your current living situation? Whether you are a recent college grad living at home or a family needing more space (or currently paying for too much space)- look into your options. Make a realistic budget (www.mint.com is very helpful) and see what you could afford. Once you have a realistic budget (whether that is more or less than you are currently spending) set up appointments to see new apartments/room shares/houses. You may come home and be satisfied with your current situation, found a better option that you either act on or put in your back pocket. Knowing what is out there and what is best for you will put your mind at ease.
