There's nothing more devastating to a writer than hitting a brick wall that seems to stifle creativity and imagination. I've found that while overcoming writer's block takes time, there are a few ways to sidestep this struggle.
I have encountered writer's block during even trivial, non-creative assignments. I've found myself creating a standard, boring, to-the-point draft, that I immediately save and dread publishing. Instead of worrying, I move on to writing something completely different, whether it be a music review, personal creative writing, or press release. It's surreal the amount of times I find the second piece of writing goes much more smoothly and I find myself writing down different directions to take the first piece.
Another method that's helped me meet tight deadlines when I'm feeling stuck has been surrounding myself with items that inspire me. Whether I'm listening to a particularly thought provoking cd, pouring over my favorite book, taking in photographs, or re-watching a beloved movie, I have found that rediscovering works of art that inspire you tend to put you in a more creative mood.
