What is Music Therapy?
Music therapy can be used to treat all kinds of physical and psychological conditions. There are two main types of music therapy, the first being passive music therapy. Passive music therapy is when the patient is at rest and is listening to calming music to relax, which can be helpful when treating
anxiety and depression. The second type, active music therapy, is when the therapist and patient
work together to make music and use all their senses to combine the information from the music to
stimulate a particular emotional response or movement. Recently, researchers have used active music therapy with patients diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease to improve movement coordination,
control, and organization skills.
