Whether you're cleaning up after a party that got a little out of hand, or your kid who think's he's Superman, should you ever face a broken light bulb still attached to its fixture, safely removing it is a problem, especially if it's broken near the base of the bulb.
Assuming there are shards remaining, cut a large potato in half and gently press the open side of the tuber into the broken glass. Slowly push the broken end of the bulb as far as it will go into the potato, and then unscrew the bulb, using the potato as a handle.
