Being supportive and understanding is key to supporting

Being supportive and understanding is key to supporting your family, especially when dealing with disabilities. The resources below, recommended by CBI Consultants, are meant to educate, enlighten and increase quality of life.

1) The Beach Center on Disability at the University of Kansas (www.beachcenter.org/
This is an excellent resource for families as it provides information and links for disability issues across the lifespan (early intervention, preschool, employment etc.)

2) The Technical Assistance Center on Social Emotional Intervention for Young Children (www.challengingbehavior.org). This resource is specific to young children with disabilities and focuses on social emotional development. Lots of free materials are available for download that parents can use with their children.

3) The Office of Special Education (USA) Technical Assistance Center on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports-Effective School Wide Interventions (www.pbis.org). This resource is specific to students with and without disabilities that are engaging in mild to severe behavior (aggression, bullying, at risk of getting expelled, incarcerated, etc). This is another research based center with material to view and download, and has strong material on bullying and supporting all kids in school through school wide interventions.
