If you are trying to make a career out of music then develop a business plan and run it like any other business.
Everyone in the band needs to be on the same page as to what the projected outcome and expectations are. For example, if you are starting a band and one guy wants to make it big as he/she is the singer/songwriter while the guitar player is a mechanic in local garage and doesn’t plan to ever leave town—then this is an issue that should be discussed early on because you need to know you can count on everyone. The dynamics of a band can be tough as there may be 4 to 5 big egos. Things like how and where money is allocated are very key. Be clear what everyone’s goals are—and have a plan.
