I always thought this was a weird old wives' tale, but it actually works: store your onions in pantyhose, tying knots between each onion, and hang them on the wall of your pantry. The knots in the stockings keep the onions separate from one another, and the nylon wicks moisture away from them. Fresh and dry onions will last up to 8 months if you use this method.
