Starting a business is a daunting task, and Kassandra McMillian of Bellies & Babies in Peterborough has done it very successfully. Her tips for success in a business ownership role can help anyone thinking of diving into entrepreneurship.
1) Go for it – “You have to be ready to devote almost all of your time to your business,” says Kassandra. “If you don’t love what you’re doing, you probably shouldn’t be going into business doing it.”
2) Pay attention – Make a business plan, do your research on the field in which you’re starting a business, and keep track of everything, no matter how tedious it seems. It’s easy to let things fall to the wayside and ignore the everyday tasks, but Kassandra attributes this attention to budgets, plans, and goals to much of her store’s success.
3) Be tenacious – Don’t let a lack of business school or real-world experience deter you. Kassandra believes that if starting a business is something you’re passionate about, you can make it work and learn the processes along the way. Coming from a working background in a dental office, Kassandra’s success with Bellies & Babies is proof positive that if you have the drive to make a plan and work hard at achieving your business goals, you can be a successful entrepreneur.
