Saving on energy bills is a smart way to cut down on your overall household expenses. However, lots of people take shorter showers, buy energy-efficient appliances, and purchase LED lightbulbs and still don't see a dramatic change in their bills. Try this: look for every item in your home that's a power vampire (there are more of these than you might think). These include any item you leave plugged in, even when it's not running: the toaster, coffee pot, computers, cell phone and mp3 chargers, and lamps. When you add all of these up, the electricity totals about 10% of your power bill. It doesn't sound like much, but if you were to unplug the vampires for one year, you'd get almost one month of electricity for free. Over a lifetime, that's years!
