What to do if a bear charges you?
Our first instinct is to run---but that won't work as bears can outrun you. In fact, they can cover a ton of ground very quickly. Bears don't have stamina, so arguably a strong runner could get away IF they started a large distance from a bear--but it is risky.
Reasoning with the bear isn't a good option either.
The best strategy according to a renowned naturalist who has come face to face with a charging bear---is to stand your ground when the bear charges--and make yourself as menacing and loud as possible--then back away slowly.
Standing your ground while a bear charges and stops 10 feet away isn't for everyone--but it has worked.
