When traveling to a foreign country, teach yourself several phrases in the native language. Knowing, "please, thank you, help, and bathroom" should be the very least they are armed with. It shows your hosts that you take an interest in their culture and don't simply assume they will speak your language. Teach these short phrases to your kids, too. Children absorb and remember new languages quickly, and it may also be of great help to your children should they require help in your absence.
