Having a pair of mittens on your hands during the winter could be more of a safety measure than you'd ever expect. If you don't wear gloves or mittens, your hands are likely to get cold. If your hands get cold, you're likely to put them in your coat pockets. If you are walking on uneven ground, up or down stairs or stumble upon an icy patch, you're likely to trip. And if you trip with your hands in your pockets, you're likely to hurt yourself because you can't get your hands out to steady yourself or to break your fall. Get some warm mittens and keep those hands free!
