When I was a little kid, we had a vegetable garden in our backyard. My mom would let me go outside and pick all the peas, green beans, tomatoes, potatoes and corn that I wanted and bring them inside to rinse, cook and eat. Sometimes I'd even sit outside and eat the peas right from the pods as a snack. I know most people don't have a veggie garden in their backyards, but I think having access to it is one of the reasons I love vegetables and am not a picky eater. You can create this "let kids pick stuff from the garden" tactic at the grocery store -- let little kids pick out the fruits and veggies they find most appealing. A child is more likely to try something knowing they've picked it out for themselves.
