i.e. and e.g. are both acceptable ways to explain something you’re talking about. i.e. means you’ll be giving an explanation in other words, and e.g. means you’ll give an example of what you’re talking about. To remember this subtle difference, think of this: i.e. = “in essence,” and e.g. = “example given.”
