Once you sign up for MeetUp.com, the next step is deciding which group to join. Depending on where you live, there can be many groups to choose from. Some groups can be very specific like the "Couples with dogs NOT kids" group. And some can be very broad and all encompassing like the "HR FEN (Hampton Roads Friends, Events, and Networking)" group. With so many groups, it can be hard to decide on which to join. For me, I found it best to start with at least two-three different groups. One was an all-female group that catered to women in their 20's and 30's. The other was a group for people with Chihuahuas. The third was HR FEN. That way I had a variety of different events I could choose from and I gave myself the chance to meet a wide variety of people. Be careful not to join too many groups. I feel more then 5 and it can get overwhelming. It's best to just focus on a few that cater to your interests. I will be back tomorrow for more tips on MeetUp.com.
