I have done a lot of long drives that are monotonous and tiring—and where I tend to feel myself getting close to falling asleep. I found a simple solution that works quite well to help me stay awake. It is to chew 3 or 4 sticks of gum—the multiple sticks force you to work chewing which is an action that helps to keep you awake. That said, if you are tired pull over at a rest stop and take a nap. Then chew some gum.
